The only off-limits location was Winfield House, the real residence of the American ambassador
Story
In the midst of an international crisis, Kate Wyler, a career diplomat, lands a prestigious job she is not prepared for, with tectonic consequences for her marriage and political future. The producers convinced the American and British governments to allow them to use real locations as filming locations for the series, including the still-new American embassy (at Nine Elms), which opened in 2018. The UK allowed filming at the Foreign Secretary’s office, a rare distinction for any film or screen production, especially an American one.
It was featured in the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards (2024)
Although it is aptly described as occupying the largest residential plot (11 acres) in London outside of Buckingham Palace, the producers used a country house outside the city for filming purposes. The characters are phenomenally written and all are somewhat of an enigma. Their dialogue is fast-paced and engaging, and the plot is constantly evolving in chaotic political directions.
It felt similar to Night Agent, but much better
It doesn’t have the strong tone of other similar shows. I’d like to compare it a bit to House of Cards, but it doesn’t fit. It has a bit of Succession, but again, it doesn’t fit.
She’s good at her job, so no one dwells on her decorum
I see reviews complaining about the main character, her sloppy appearance and aggressive behavior, but that’s her specialty! «You want people in power who *don’t* want to be in power.» Kate focuses on the mission and the cause, where people’s lives hang in the balance. What she wears, how she looks, and even when she sleeps, takes a back seat to the main mission.
I really hope we get a s2
I thought her style fit the narrative perfectly, and it was a refreshing change of pace. The best part of the show is the relationships everyone has with each other. It’s rare for me to like every character on a show, but this one did that for me.
